Cynthia Linville
Earth, Air, Fire, Water
San Francisco thirteen floors up
a tremor rattles and rattles and
rattles the windows, rumbles and
rolls my bed from wall to wall
rocks me – fearless –
into a tingling ecstasy
Indigo black clouds drown the sun
in the rumbling Key West sky
lightening forks the waves
startling us
making love half a mile out
prompting lifeguards to scurry and shout
Bonfire on a midsummer hillside
kindles from breath blown on tinder
licks life from dry branches
whooshes into full flame
as we feed it incense, oils, and herbs
and dance to drums with wild abandon
The kitchen sink fills slowly
to the brink then overflows
spilling onto the floor
bathing our bare feet
swirling around our ankles as we kiss
oblivious to the damage
Cynthia Linville teaches at CSUS Sacramento, and hosts the popular Poetry At The Vox reading series in Sacramento. She's also the poetry editor of the online journal Convergence, and the Sacramento Poetry Center's Poetry Now. I hope I haven't forgotten anything. She's very nice.
